Barrel Futurities of America
Board of Directors Meeting
Makes Changes and Prepares for 2008
Barrel Futurities of America Board of Directors
met in Oklahoma City January 13 & 14.
A lengthy agenda greeted the group and the following
changes will be implemented at the World Championships event in
December 2008:
1. The SUCCEEDED Derby payoffs will be adjusted so that each go-round
will pay 30% of the purse. Twenty horses will return to the Finals
where 40% of the purse will be paid on the two run average.
2. The $uper$takes event will be scheduled for Friday night, Dec.
12. These 3 yr. Olds may compete in the Elite Juvenile Futurity,
but that must be their first competition after Dec. 1.
3. The Amateur Final will be contested Saturday Dec. 13. Future
Fortunes and Cody Bauserman Quarter Horses are sponsoring this $5000
event. The top ten amateur contestants who do not qualify for the
World Championship Futurity may compete. Interested contestants
must provide a copy of an AQHA, APHA, or ApHC amateur card to BFA
Secretary Ross Wright before Sept. 1. AQHA Amateur rules apply to
the BFA event.
The BFA Futurity year-end bonus program has been increased to $15,000.
Bonus checks will be awarded as follows:
BFA Year-End Champion - $5000
BFA Year-End Reserve Champion - $4000
3rd place - $3000
4th place - $2000
5th place - $1000
The BFA discussed the cloning issue. The association’s
statement is: BFA considers clones and offspring of clones as grade
horses. BFA accepts grade horses to enter its events with a proper
affidavit of age. Recognition is not given to sire or dam of grade
horses.
The BFA World Championship Barrel Horse Sale netted
$957,600 on 104 lots sold through the ring. Going Big Time Sale
Company set another sales record as these horses averaged $9,207.
The 2008 sale will consist of 100 lots of yearlings, two, and three
year olds.
Finally, the BFA Board is considering a new point
system and a program to “grade” futurities, similar
to the racehorse industry’s graded races. BFA members are
encouraged to contact the officers and directors to ask questions
and to provide input on this futurity industry issue.
James Eason of North Carolina is the new member
of the BFA Board. He joins President Charles Brock, Vice-President
Jimmy Roper, Cindy Arnold, Cody Bauserman, Chris Duke, Mary Ellen
Hackman, Marne Loosenort, and Tamara Reinhardt. BFA Secretary Ross
Wright can be contacted at ross@barrelfuturitiesofamerica.com and
