Why Join the BFA?

Barrel Futurities of America (BFA) is one of the premier organizations in the barrel racing industry. The BFA is dedicated to the betterment of futurity/derby competitions for horses ages 4 to 6. As of the 2006 season the futurity age is 4 yr. olds and the derby is 6 and under.

Beginning December 1, members begin campaigning their young futurity and derby horses at BFA approved events with the goal of accumulating points toward a BFA World Champion title. Regardless of the added purse money or number of entries, each BFA approved event awards points according to a standardized points “payoff” which is listed in the BFA rulebook. With this system, the BFA and its members respect and recognize the importance of every futurity/derby competition and its sponsor.

The crowning event in the BFA competition year is the World Championship which is produced each December at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Although this competition is open to all age eligible futurity and derby horses, the BFA year-end champions are determined here. Championship saddles, cash bonuses, and other awards are presented to both the futurity and derby champions.

Elected by the membership and responsive to their input, the BFA Board of Directors is on the cutting edge of making decisions that impact the barrel racing industry as a whole.
Becoming a member of the BFA enables you to compete for year-end championship points, bonuses, and awards. Too, you will be covered by health insurance while traveling to, competing at, and returning home from a BFA event.
